Registration & Application for KK8 Universiti Malaya
Applying for accommodation at Kolej Kediaman Kinabalu (KK8) is managed centrally by the Universiti Malaya Student Affairs Department. Here is everything you need to know about the registration and placement process.
Who Can Apply
Accommodation at KK8 is open to all registered UM students — undergraduate, postgraduate, and international. Priority is given to first-year undergraduates. About 65% of all UM undergraduate students are housed in residential colleges. Placement depends on availability and eligibility as determined by the Student Affairs Division.
How to Apply
Room applications are submitted through the official UM Student Affairs portal at hep.um.edu.my. Students should monitor their UM email and the student portal for placement offers. Once offered, confirmation must be made immediately. Late confirmation may result in the offer being withdrawn or a penalty fee being charged.
Fees & Payment
Standard residential fees at KK8 are charged per semester and are clearly stated in the UM offer letter. Postgraduate and international students are charged slightly higher rates (RM15–RM70 per day). Public applicants and short-stay guests may also book accommodation at a starting rate of RM15 per night, subject to availability.
